First Presbyterian Church of Duncan, Oklahoma begins its history in 1908 when a small group of Presbyterians started holding meetings in the Stephens County Courthouse. They were formally organized in the spring of that same year. On May 21, 1908, the four lots at 8th Street and Ash Avenue and the existing frame church building were purchased from Duncan's Baptist church. Our current sanctuary had its cornerstone laid on August 25, 1933, with a major renovation completed in February, 1978.

On Sunday, August 8, 2024, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Duncan, Oklahoma will receive a message from Reverend Mark Henslee entitled "God's Children Walk In Christ." Scripture for this sermon is Ephesians 5:1-21. Reverend Henslee writes, "This paragraph about living rightly as God's 'Children of Light' is boundaried by its opening and closing imperative commands. The opening command is for us disciples of Jesus to be imitators of God and live lovingly as Christ loves us then and now. This kind of love is not about sex or desires, but is very much about loyalty, honor, caring, and sacrificing for the other's well-being. Apostle Paul closes this teaching about how we live with ideas of submission and reverence, urging us to submit to one another in reverence for Christ."
We will receive an offering of music from the Hand Bell Choir this Sunday. Led by Anna Adams, the group will play "Be Still and Know That I Am God."

Music Ministry Sunday School Class
Music Ministry Sunday school reminds us of the importance of hearing God's voice in our worship music, not just in the special music we present as a gift of our hearts but in our hymn singing also. The class studies hand bell pieces, and the choir music currently under rehearsal is stretching everyone to new potentials. This class gathers every Sunday at 9:30 am in the sanctuary, which is a gift in itself. This class is open to everyone interested in music in any form. Y'all come sing with us!
