First Presbyterian Church of Duncan, Oklahoma begins its history in 1908 when a small group of Presbyterians started holding meetings in the Stephens County Courthouse. They were formally organized in the spring of that same year. On May 21, 1908, the four lots at 8th Street and Ash Avenue and the existing frame church building were purchased from Duncan's Baptist church. Our current sanctuary had its cornerstone laid on August 25, 1933, with a major renovation completed in February, 1978.

May 19, 2024 Day of Pentecost
On Pentecost Sunday, at 10:45 am, Reverend Mark Henslee will speak from the book of John, chapters 14, 15, and 16 with a sermon entitled "Jesus Teaches About Spirit!" Reverend Henslee writes, "In these last hours of his earthly ministry with his disciples, we have Jesus' last words, teaching, and prayer just before the Passion of Christ. Jesus states his purposes--that we may trust him, that we may know peace, and that Jesus' joy may be in us and our joy be full. TRUST-PEACE-JOY. Jesus promises the coming arrival of the Spirit of God five times in these three chapters. Understanding the presence and gifts of the Spirit for believers should be as important to us as it is to Jesus himself. Jesus speaks of the Spirit as 'another Paraclete' because Jesus himself is a paraclete, helper or advocate. The Spirit mirrors Christ and always points to the Father through the Son because of the internal consistency of God."

Music Ministry Sunday School Class
Music Ministry Sunday school reminds us of the importance of hearing God's voice in our worship music, not just in the special music we present as a gift of our hearts but in our hymn singing also. The class studies hand bell pieces, and the choir music currently under rehearsal is stretching everyone to new potentials. This class gathers every Sunday at 9:30 am in the sanctuary, which is a gift in itself. This class is open to everyone interested in music in any form. Y'all come sing with us!
